I wrote Traveling the Strange Dark Country as a compassionate companion for people experiencing the death of a loved one. We will all experience grief and loss throughout our lives. When we do, we will not be ill, abnormal, crazy, or inadequate as we struggle to make sense of what we experience...nor will we be as alone as we may feel.
Using the metaphor of journeying through a strange, dark, and unknown country, this book will inform, inspire, and empower those who grieve while helping people understand how grief unfolds in ways unique to the individual. It will demystify and normalize the life altering impact of grief, not just in the short-term, but over years and throughout the rest of our lives.
It will also inform friends, family members, and professionals how they can better support people experiencing loss.
"Grief is not about the deceased. Someone is alive, and then they die. Their story ends. What happens next is about the living. We do not grieve for the dead; the dead don't care. We grieve for ourselves. We grieve for what we have lost. Death is the event that changes everything."
